Yemassee police officer accused of stealing more than $10,000

Captain Gregory Alexander of the Yemassee Police Department has been charged with stealing more than $10,000 in seizures:

Capt. Gregory Alexander had been charged with one count of misconduct in office and two counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent after an investigation by the S.C. Law Enforcement Division into the finances of the town’s police force, Yemassee Police Chief Jack Hagy said. Alexander is accused of misusing more than $10,000 in cash seized by the department between 2009 and 2011, according to the indictment

Assuming that by seizures they mean “forfeitures” or money taken from motorists, many of whom had no more than simple possession weight marijuana in their car, isn’t that ironic?  Alexander is accused of stealing the money that the department stole from the motorists.  H/T NPMRP

Last year former Yemassee police officer Curtis Fields was arrested and charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct and Misconduct of a Public Official – accused of agreeing not to issue a ticket in exchange for oral sex, an incident which was apparently caught on audio.  According to the Hampton County public index, the case is still pending.
